# 1장
어제는 정말 이상한 일들이 많이 일어났습니다.
Yesterday so many strange things had happened.

애니는 책갈피가 있는 페이지를 넘겼습니다.
Annie turned to the page with the bookmark.
검은 말을 탄 기사의 그림이 있었습니다.
There was a picture of a knight on a black horse.
그는 성을 향해 말을 타고 가고 있었습니다.
He was riding toward a castle.
말의 우는 소리가 아래에서 다시 들렸다.
The sound of a horse’s whinny came again from below.
# 3장
잭은 수첩을 꺼냈다.
Jack pulled out his notebook.
그는 공룡 여행에서 그랬던 것처럼 메모를 하고 싶었습니다.
He wanted to take notes, as he’d done on their dinosaur trip.
"바라보다!" 애니가 안개 속을 들여다보며 말했다.
“Look!” said Annie, peering through the mist.
“풍차! 오른쪽 저기!”
“A windmill! Right over there!”
“실제로 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 보고 싶어요,
“I want to see what’s really going on,
잭. 안에 있는 게 아니라 책이요.” 애니가 말했습니다.
Jack. Not what’s in the book,” said Annie.
# 4장
성 안에서는 음악 소리, 고함소리, 웃음 소리가 들려왔습니다.
From inside the castle came the sounds of music, shouting, and laughter.
잭이 손을 흔들었다.
Jack waved back.
그는 소년들과 말이 마구간 안에서 사라질 때까지 기다렸습니다.
He waited till the boys and horses disappeared inside the stable.
그런 다음 그는 우물로 달려갔습니다.
Then he dashed to the well.
개들은 테이블 아래 뼈를 두고 싸우고 있었습니다.
Dogs were fighting over bones under the tables.
"모르겠어요." 애니가 속삭였습니다.
“I don’t know,” whispered Annie.
"하지만 그들은 손가락으로 먹고 있어요."
“But they’re eating with their fingers.”
# 5장
"여기! 빠른!" 애니는 복도에 있는 문을 향해 달려갔다.
“Here! Quick!” Annie dashed toward a door oʃ the hallway.
그녀는 문을 밀어 열었다.
She pushed the door open.
두 사람은 어둡고 추운 방으로 들어갔다.
The two of them stumbled into a dark, cold room.
그들 뒤에서 문이 삐걱거리는 소리를 내며 닫혔다.
The door creaked shut behind them.
“나에게 손전등을 주세요.” 애니가 말했습니다.
“Give me the flashlight,” said Annie.
잭은 그것을 그녀에게 건네주었고, 그녀는 그것을 켰습니다.
Jack handed it to her, and she switched it on.
“잠시만 손전등을 켜 보겠습니다.” Jack이 말했습니다.
“Let me have the flashlight a second,” said Jack.

“So I can look in the book.”
# 6장
경비병들은 잭과 애니를 무기고 밖으로 행진시켰습니다.
The guards marched Jack and Annie out of the armory.
Jack은 Annie가 경비원에게 소리치는 것을 들었습니다.
Jack heard Annie shouting at the guards.
“멍청이들! 의미! 우리는 아무것도 안 했어요!”
“Dummies! Meanies! We didn’t do anything!”
Jack은 Annie가 배낭을 가지고 있는 것을 보았습니다.
Jack saw that Annie had his backpack.
# 7장
애니는 그에게 손전등과 배낭을 주었습니다.
Annie gave him the flashlight and his backpack.
그는 책을 꺼내서 찢기 시작했습니다.
He pulled out the book and started tearing through it.
그는 다섯 번째 돌을 밟았습니다.
He stamped on the ɹfth stone.
느슨했어요!
It was loose!
그는 배터리가 완전히 방전되기 전에 성 밖으로 나가고 싶어 필사적으로 노력했습니다.
He was desperate to get out of the castle before the batteries died completely.
# 8장
"무엇?" 그녀의 목소리는 앞쪽에서 들려왔다.
“What?” Her voice came from in front.
뒤에 있지 않습니다.
Not behind.
또 다른 물보라는 해자 물에서 나왔습니다.
Another splash came from the moat waters.
바로 그때 구름이 갈라졌습니다.
Just then the clouds parted.
하늘에는 보름달이 빛나고 있었습니다.
A full moon was shining in the sky.
안개 사이로 빛의 웅덩이가 퍼졌습니다.
A pool of light spread through the mist.
# 9장
그는 매우 용감하고 매우 강력하다고 느꼈습니다.
He felt very brave and very powerful.
“고마워요, 선생님.” 그녀가 말했다.
“Thank you, sir,” she said.
그리고 그녀는 절했습니다.
And she bowed.
“내가 올바른 책에서 올바른 그림을 가리켰으면 좋겠습니다.”라고 말했습니다.애니.
“I hope I pointed to the right picture in the right book,” said Annie.
# 10장
"어서 해봐요! 서두르다!" 애니가 나무 위의 집에서 빠르게 뛰쳐나오며 말했습니다.
“Come on! Hurry!” said Annie, scooting out of the tree house.
잭은 그녀를 따라 사다리 아래로 내려갔습니다.
Jack followed her down the ladder.
그들은 마당에 도착하여 잔디밭을 가로질러 살금살금 기어갔습니다.
They got to their yard and crept across the lawn.
바로 뒷문까지요.
Right up to the back door.
잭은 침대 옆 서랍을 열었습니다.
Jack opened the drawer next to his bed.
그는 금메달을 꺼냈다.
He took out the gold medallion.
